It's Giveaway Time!

Get out your confetti, it's giveaway time! Hopefully, you've already visited the other blogs in the chain to be entered for their goodies. If not, start here and I'll wait until you're back.

Oh, you're back! Good!

Now's your chance to win an ebook of Between, my YA paranormal romance about a grim reaper with a Scottish accent. Since I am a big fan of Scotland (read: total Scot freak), I've decided to make this contest a wee bit of fun.

To enter, just leave a comment below and tell me one Scottish term and what it means in English. The only trick is that you can't use a word that has already been used.

Since I already used "wee" (which means "little" in English), that one's taken, but there are so many more awesome Scot-isms. Lay them on me!

And don't forget to check out the next blog in the chain at 6pm (central) for more giveaway goodness! All giveaways will remain open until Sunday at noon, so you have time to enter them all. 'Cuz we're nice that way.

  1. I just learned this one: keech! The "ch" is pronounced like it is in "loch". It means poop (according to my good Scottish friends). :)

  3. I was going to use the word, bonny, which means attractive, but I don't know if it really is Scottish in origin.

So I'm going to give both the Scottish and Irish words for "Thank you":
Scottish - "Tapadh leat" (tah-puh laht)

Irish - "Go raibh maith agat"(gurra mah hoggut)

I knew those classes I took two years ago would be usable someday. :D

    Ken - Know.

Ahlhuvasausagesupperwi'aningininanaw - I'll have a sausage supper with an onion, one, as well.

Who knew being Scottish would one day come in handy.

  13. No need to enter me as I already have your ebook waiting to be read. But I wanted to share the new word I learned just this week courtesy of Jeri Smith-Ready oops I mean Zachary Moore. He tweeted to Logan Keeley "suck my wally, ye blathering skite".
Skite - a boastful, nonsensical overtalker
I was already familiar with the word wally lol

  14. cegluna- I saw that tweet! LOL Jeri kills me. She is hilarious!

I created an account for Aiden MacRae this week and have had more fun trading barbs with Logan and Zach.

Zach is right; Logan is a skite but we love him anyway! :)

  16. 'Doing the messages' -- which means doing the shopping and took me an age to figure out. Also, 'D'ye ken?' which the people around me say all the time, and which is the equivalent of 'you know'. Another good one is 'blithering' for 'talking aimlessly' -- hope nobody else has said that here. And a 'piece' here means a sandwich. That had me confused for a long time too.

  17. Numpty

Means - not a very bright fellow

    Fanny

    Means - idiot

    Braw

    Means - good

    Barry (as in 'that's barry')

    Means - really good

    Shoogle

    Means - shake

Keep thinking of them and realising that I use them more than I thought. I just told my daughter to give her hair a 'shoogle' after her shower.
