Crazy Stupid Love That Lasts a Lifetime

I watched Crazy Stupid Love last night, curled up on the couch with my hubby. It was really cute. You should rent it!

In the movie, Steve Carell plays a man (Cal) who met his soul mate when he was 15. Okay, I realize this is Hollywood so it doesn't have to be believable. But you know what? It happens.

Teenagers fall in love. Like real, forever, honest-to-goodness, crazy, stupid love.

Sometimes they even get married. And stay married.

It happened to me.

My husband and I got together during our first year of college. We met in late August, were engaged by February and married the following December. We would have been married sooner, but our folks freaked out because we were so young. When we got engaged, I was 19 and he was 18.

This year marks our 19th wedding anniversary.

Okay, yes, I realize you can do the math and figure out how old I am. I know, you're shocked! Eh, you'll get over it. *grin*

Turns out we're not the only ones in this Crazy Stupid Love Club. I was tweeting with some fabulous ladies the other night and they, too, were blushing brides who've stuck it out for the long haul because of crazy, stupid love!

@NewUTMommy: married at 20, going on 15 years together now
@deviantzangel: engaged at 20, married at 22, still together
@readingangel002: married at 17, going strong
@Loretta_Lynn86: engaged at 16, married at 18, still in love
@violethourBR: married at 19, 7.5 years together now
@jderucki: engaged at 20, married at 21, celebrating 16 years together
@baakrjacks: married at 20, been together for 25 years!

Young adult romance is not always about crushes. Sometimes it's the real thing. And that's a beautiful thing. <333

  1. It's not for everyone, but it worked for us. There were some who didn't think we'd last. Guess we proved them wrong!

  2. Same here! Met my hubby online during high school, got engaged during college and married right after. We've been together 13-14 years and married for 8. :)

  3. Absolutely! One of my highschool friends met her husband at sixteen, they were engaged right after she graduated, and married when she was 18 or 19. They've been married 6-7 years now.

I met my husband at 16 and I reeeeeally liked him, but he was 5 years older so he didn't even think about dating me until I was 18 and then I guess I was old enough for him to flirt with, and we started going out when I was 19. We got married when I was 21, and we've been married almost 4 years now (I've known him a total of 9 years) and I've never been happier in my life.

We aren't technically high school sweethearts, and there were a lot of other sweethearts in between, but I knew at 16 that he was perfect for me and it turns out I wasn't wrong. So I definitely believe that young love can happen!

  4. I really enjoyed that movie too Cyndie. And yes, Im one of THOSE. Met my Hot Man at age 19, got engaged 2 weeks later, married him 8 months later and this year we celebrated our 18th wedding anniversary. Were we too young and crazy stupid to get married? Most definitely. Would I recommend it for my own daughters? Hell no. But am I very grateful that I have him and we have muddled our way through this far? Yes. He's my best friend. And the man who helps me to be a better me. I love him. Crazy stupid love! LOL

  5. I'm loving these comments! :)

One benefit of getting married young is that my husband and I have never had "mine" and "yours." It's been "ours" from the beginning. It sounds like a small thing, but dividing up the money can be a huge issue for some couples, and it's nothing we've ever had to worry about.

Yep, getting married young is definitely not for everyone, but it can work out when it's right, as you all can attest!

  6. Today I watched two of my friends get married. The groom is 21, and the bride is 19. I was SO surprised when they invited me (especially because I had no idea they were engaged & it was only days before the wedding!), because they're young, and they've only been together for a little over a year. But when I watched them get married today, it made all the sense in the world. They're best friends, and that can happen at any age.

  7. I met my husband at 15 but didn't start dating until 16, got engaged at 19, married at 21 and still going strong. We've been together ten years, married for five and can't imagine being with anyone else, ever.

  10. My husband first saw me when he came to the movie theatre I worked at with his girlfriend. He came back the next day alone and applied for a job and got hired that day. We worked together a lot and became best friends. He kicked the girlfriend to the curb and three children and 25 years later here we are!
